The Office of the Dean of the Faculty and the Office of Career Services are seeking an innovative career services professional to provide individual career transition advising, job search assistance and programmatic support for faculty spouses/partners and postdoctoral fellows. This inaugural role will report to the Vice Dean for Faculty Development, Office of the Dean of the Faculty with a dotted line reporting relationship to the Senior Associate Director of Career Advising. This is a two year term position.
The individual would execute a strategy based on the goals of the Office of the Dean of the Faculty (DOF) in providing career support for faculty spouses/partners and postdoctoral fellows. As a member of the Office of Career Services (OCS) career advising team, they will work within the offices' career advising/education and employer engagement framework and collaborate with cross-functional staff.
To meet the needs of faculty spouses/partners, the individual will advise clients with diverse employment experiences as they transition to the Princeton area and assist them in identifying and connecting to appropriate job search resources, organizations and opportunities.
To meet the needs of postdoctoral fellows, the individual will advise clients who are engaged in mentored research and/or scholarly training for the purpose of acquiring the professional skills needed to successfully pursue career opportunities. Recognizing that the needs of postdoctoral fellows may be closely related to those of current graduate students, this role will involve close collaboration with the OCS graduate student career adviser.
Career Advising, Programming, and Referrals
Work closely with the Vice Dean for Faculty Development to determine and implement a strategy based on goals of the DOF and evolving client needs
Provide individual career advising for faculty spouse/partner and postdoctoral fellow clients relating to employment and career development
Assist with goal-setting, development of job search action plans and follow-up strategies
Advise on resume/CV writing, LinkedIn profiles, and how to establish and communicate their professional brand
Administer instruments and utilize a variety of assessment tools (e.g. MBTI, Strong Inventory, StrengthsFinder, etc.) to support clients' career development
Work closely with local executive recruiters and employment agencies as appropriate to identify opportunities and referrals for faculty spouse/partner clients
Monitor incoming job postings tagged for experienced candidates in the OCS Handshake recruiting platform to identify appropriate opportunities and referrals for faculty spouse/partner clients
Interface with OCS employer outreach team as appropriate to determine potential prospects for faculty spouse/partner clients
Identify and connect postdoctoral fellows with relevant employers and programs
Develop and support career exploration panels, professional development initiatives, as well as networking and recruiting events for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows (combined) that highlight career options within industry and academia
Include faculty spouse/partner clients in select alumni-focused group advising sessions and career programs
Include postdoctoral fellows in select graduate student-focused group advising sessions, networking/recruiting events and career education programs
Maintain and update appointment schedules, appointment records and program/event management documentation
Create reports for the Vice Dean for Faculty Development and Senior Associate Director of Career Advising
Contribute to OCS assessment, data compilation and analysis efforts to identify and report satisfaction and outcomes
Potentially work collaboratively with the OCS alumni career adviser and assist with occasional alumni advising and programming
Master's or Doctoral Degree preferred
Previous experience in counseling/advising, program development, instruction or training and development, preferably with graduate students or professionals
Familiarity with job market research and recruiting trends across a wide range of industries and fields as well as guidelines for working in the US for international clients and non-US citizens
A passion for advising adults in transition across a wide range of careers, as well as working within a University career center and academically focused environment
Demonstrated understanding of the importance of diversity, equity and inclusion within the workplace and in all interactions with all constituents and stakeholders
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to deliver effective presentations, and build internal and external relationships
Ability to work effectively within a complex, fast-paced, and evolving organization
Flexibility and an entrepreneurial spirit
High levels of resourcefulness and execution skills (strategy through implementation)
Ability to gather, interpret and report data
