The Center is the lead unit on the campus providing career services to all students in all colleges, across all degree levels, and promotes a learning environment where students’ academic and career goals are integrated to ensure success both at the University and in employment or graduate study upon degree completion. The focus of The President’s Promise is to promote student engagement in learning experiences outside of the classroom that complement the academic curriculum. The Center adheres to and promotes the highest professional standards and ethics in all its programs, services and collaborations.
About the Position: The Program Director-Career Foundations plays a key role in students successfully completing the Foundations phase of career development, which includes self-assessment, career exploration and basic job search tools. The Program Director provides leadership and supervision of the Center’s student staff programs.
Counseling: The Program Director counsels students through individual appointments and drop-in sessions regarding career decision-making, career exploration, experiential learning opportunities, student employment and full-time professional job search strategies and techniques, use of social media and online career tools for career and job search activities, graduate/advanced study, career/life planning and transition issues.
Student Staff Program Management: The Program Director manages and administers the Peer Career Educator (PCE) and Center Student Employee (CSE) Programs. Serving in this capacity, the Program Director recruits, trains, supervises, develops and evaluates PCE student staff, and coordinates with student supervisors for training, development and evaluation of CSE student staff. The Program Director collaborates with PCEs to provide peer-to-peer programming and manages the budget and assessment for student staff programs, coordinates recognition events and manages Resource Room space.
Outreach/Programming/Teaching: The Program Director presents skill-based workshops, distributes information on Center services, resources and events, teaches career/job search classes and provides staffing support to center-wide events.
Qualifications: Master's degree in student affairs, counseling, education, or related area. Two (2) years experience in career services or a related field including counseling, educational programming, work with employers and administrative responsibilities. Computer literacy is required, including computer-assisted guidance systems, Internet job search tools and database management systems. The successful candidate will possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills, as well as excellent written communication and presentation skills. The ability to work with diverse student populations is critical. Previous experience at a large university and in a comprehensive career center will be helpful. Demonstrated student staff supervisory experience is highly desirable.
Compensation: Upper 40’s/Low 50’s commensurate with experience. The University offers a comprehensive benefits package, including annual leave, sick leave and tuition remission. This position is an exempt staff, full-time, 12 month appointment.
