To provide comprehensive services to Northern Virginia Community College leadership, administration, and students with targeted support for career and internship planning. This position is located in the Workforce Division, and reports to the Director of Business Engagement.
Supervise career services team, which includes two full-time employees. Serve as manager for college-wide career services activities, including, but not limited to: management of the college’s jobs and internships portal, management of employment and professional development opportunities for students, development and offering of a series of workshops on career planning, and provision of other career support services for student population. Collaborate regularly with college faculty and staff, and serve as a liaison to employers and community organizations. As needed, assist with event planning and participate in campus/college committees and special projects.
Bachelor’s Degree in Education or a related field, or equivalent working experience. Experience working within a higher education setting and within the private industry sector.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with students, faculty, and employers • Experience and ability to work cooperatively with students, faculty members, community/employer partners, and staff members throughout the northern Virginia region. • Skill in oral and written communication • Ability to use marketing tools such as the college website and social media outlets • Knowledge of college internship protocols and policies • Knowledge of career services and business engagement activities • Skilled in research necessary to find information on careers, job opportunities, and transfer institutions • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and with minimal supervision • Ability to present comfortably in front of small and large groups • Skills in written communication including the development of letters, brochures, memos, presentation and course materials • Ability and experience with the design and implementation of programs including career workshops and major events • Ability to pass college criminal background check • Demonstrated computer efficiency in Microsoft Office, e-mail, Adobe Acrobat reader, Microsoft PowerPoint presentation development, and general search tools online • Ability to work five days per week, and the occasional evening and weekend hours and travel locally to partner sites as needed.
