POSITION DETAILS Brooklyn College of the City University of New York (CUNY) invites applications for the position of Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs with a starting date of July 1, 2018.
The Provost, as the Chief Academic Officer of Brooklyn College, develops and promotes the academic vision of the College, provides leadership in achieving the goals of the College Strategic Plan and the City University of New York (CUNY) wide Strategic Framework, directs and guides the development of curriculum and of academic programs and services, and supports faculty development/faculty research activity.
The Provost oversees 42 academic departments and interdisciplinary programs, and offices of undergraduate and graduate studies, strategic initiatives, institutional effectiveness, advancement of research, along with all faculty development, services, and academic administrative operations. The Provost works closely with the President and members of her executive staff. The Provost will provide energetic, intellectual leadership to the academic community and will play a lead role in the development of academic vision and strategy for the College.
The Provost assists in cultivating the leadership ability of Deans, Chairs, Directors, Faculty and Professional/Support Staff.

The Provost: - Supports and partners with the College President in promoting the vision and priorities of the College; - Initiates development and oversees implementation of strategic and tactical plans for reaching the goals of the College and CUNY; - Directs recruitment, retention, and professional development of a diverse and distinguished faculty and academic staff; - Oversee the mentoring and development of faculty in teaching and pedagogy as well as research and scholarship. - Leads academic program planning and development within and across schools and disciplines including facilities planning and renovation; - Fosters research and creative activities; works with the CUNY Research Foundation; - Works in partnership with the Office of Academic Affairs at CUNY Central on university strategic initiatives; - Deals with many individual faculty issues, from disciplinary to scholarship support, and the hiring of faculty; - Work on the accreditation issues across all schools; - Work closely with all the governance committees across the College, and Curriculum; and - Helps to develop a sound fiscally-minded budget and the allocation of resources.
QUALIFICATIONS This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.
Brooklyn College seeks a Provost with a broad academic vision; a strong background in research, scholarship, and teaching; and a strong commitment to diversity and undergraduate and graduate education. The Provost will be a passionate, accomplished scholar, strong leader, effective collaborator, and visible advocate for academic quality, who understands the needs of Brooklyn College diverse student body. The Provost will be committed to the vision of faculty as teacher/scholars; embrace interdisciplinary and internationalization; engage with faculty, students, and staff across a diverse set of academic pursuits, and an ardent supporter of diversity. Applicants should have an outstanding verbal and written communication and leadership skills. Additionally, applicants should be able to work with multiple constituencies to gather consensus building, the ability to listen and learn, foster collaborations and interdisciplinary skills, and stay up to date with the current trends in higher education. The Provost will have a doctorate or other earned terminal degree and a record of teaching and scholarship warranting appointment as a tenured full professor. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and decisively; a track record of promoting student success with first-generation students and enhancing the effectiveness of teaching and learning; and respect for shared governance will be important for success in this role.
