Southern Connecticut State University (SCSU) is excited to launch a new department of Career and Professional Development (formerly a part of Academic and Career Advising). As a part of the Southern Success Center, the Career and Professional Development Center will help to promote student success, support students’ progress to graduation, and prepare students for productivity in work and community upon graduation. SCSU seeks a passionate, student-centered leader to serve as Associate Director of Career and Professional Development.
The Associate Director will provide leadership to deliver a comprehensive career education and preparation program that offers career coaching and advising to assist students at any stage of their career development and to help students organize and integrate their classroom and experiential learning to prepare for career success. The Associate Director will help students develop self-knowledge related to career choice and work performance, create mechanisms by which students are introduced to career competencies and understand their relationship to success in the workplace, and elevate learning and career readiness through student employment. This position is also responsible for coordinating post-graduation/first destination outcomes survey(s) and assisting the director with additional data collection, analysis and reporting.
The Associate Director of Career and Professional Development must have a master’s degree in career counseling, student affairs, higher education, counseling psychology, or a related field and a minimum of five years’ full time, relevant professional level experience in career development/services within higher education or related area. The successful candidate will demonstrate direct experience working successfully with diverse populations and a clear commitment to social justice; possess strong communication skills, both orally and in writing; demonstrate effectiveness in building relationships with a variety of campus partners; and, be familiar with the changing demographics and needs of today’s college students.
