Function Responsible to the Assistant Vice President of Student Services for leading the administration and operation of University Career Services.
The Director of University Career Services provides student-centered leadership focused on career planning and employment for undergraduate students, graduate students, and ETSU alumni. The Director is responsible for the overall operation of staff, programs, outreach, and employer relations within University Career Services. Responsibility and leadership includes major exploration, career counseling and planning, job listing and resume programs, coordinating on campus interviewing opportunities, and evaluating services and programs. The Director is responsible for developing and maintaining strong relationships on campus and off campus by collaborating with academic areas to best serve students, developing employer relationships, and collaborating with administrative offices including University Advancement, Alumni Association, and Student Affairs.
Direct all operation of University Career Services including selection, training, development, and evaluation of all staff.
Promote and maintain high-quality customer service practices with an emphasis on student centered services.
Work with academic deans and other administrative unit heads to deliver a comprehensive approach to career development, internship development, and employment services that meet the needs of students.
Grow and manage employer relations, on-campus recruitment programs, internship programs, and initiatives to develop student employment opportunities.
Collaborate with campus departments in developing programs and services designed to support University student success efforts.
Direct a comprehensive career development program for students to assist student planning and readiness.
Build and maintain effective relationships with local and regional corporations, non-profits, government organizations, and community partners for employment and internship opportunities for ETSU students and alumni.
Communicate local, regional, and national trends related to career options and the job market with University faculty, staff, and students to maximize student employment opportunities.
Promote career services, programs, and resources to students, faculty, staff, alumni, employers, and other university stakeholders.
Work effectively with Institutional Research, University Advancement, and other university departments to collect and maintain annual job placement data for our students and alumni.
Develop relationships and program ideas that support the mission of ETSU and the Division of Student Affairs.
Implement effective data collection, analysis, and reporting systems that demonstrate career-related outcomes and inform strategic resource allocation and direction.
Administer and manage department financial accounts.
Serve as member of the Division of Student Affairs leadership team and assist with other program initiatives as needed.
Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of the role of student affairs in higher education. Knowledge of principles of supervision, training and evaluation. Knowledge of employer relations and fundraising. Knowledge of university policies and procedures. Ability to work as a team member and provide customer service. Ability to communicate effectively through public speaking and in writing. Ability to establish rapport with departments, student groups, and external organizations. Ability to organize and direct multiple activities simultaneously. Ability to prepare and manage budgets. Ability to apply policies effectively and accurately. Ability to analyze financial statements and present financial reports. Ability to resolve customer conflicts. Ability to motivate people to work cooperatively toward a common goal.
Minimum Qualifications Master’s degree in College Student Personnel Services, Higher Education Administration, Counseling or related field; six (7) years of experience with substantial history of progressively responsible experience in career services required; exceptional communication skills; strong presentation skills; able to teach students and interact with a variety of ETSU constituents.
Preferred qualifications Doctorate or terminal degree. Employer relations experience highly preferred Record of innovation and vision in career services
