The Virginia Military Institute is accepting applications for the Director of Career Services. Reporting to the Deputy Superintendent for Academics and Dean of the Faculty, the Director of Career Services (DCS) will work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to promote the career readiness and optimal post-graduation success of cadets.
The responsibilities of the DCS shall include, but are not necessarily limited to, the following:
Assist cadets with career planning, career experiences, and employment or graduate education opportunities leading to successful transitions following graduation
Create and implement plans to drive continuous improvement in cadet career outcomes by identifying skills-gap issues that impact placement and proactively design programs to address specific needs.
Market VMI and its cadets to employers by overseeing an extensive employer relations program including recruiting, internship development and employer outreach to expand career opportunities for cadets.
Supervise and evaluate all Office of Career Services (OCS) personnel while providing opportunities for strong professional development to stay current with trends in the fields and the workforce.
Evaluate the fiscal needs of the OCS. Prepare, manage, and administer the operational budget, as well as the special OCS program budgets. Identify needs and develop strategic alliances across VMI to fund important career-related initiatives.
Ensure compliance of CAS and National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) professional standards for career services and related SACS requirements. Lead quinquennial program review efforts and implement related action plans.
Collateral duties as required in support of the VMI mission.
Bachelor’s degree in a related disciplinary field.
Experience in higher education administration, preferably in career planning, placement or related field such as business or management
Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills
Ability to work under pressure, with the flexibility to respond to changing priorities and fluctuating workloads
Advanced degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Business or a related area
Excellent working knowledge of online career management systems or similar software.
Demonstrated knowledge of higher education administration and education policies.
