Duties and responsibilities:
Service Center Information: It is the mission of USG's Career and Internship Services Center (CISC) to collaborate with USM partner institutions and the regional business community to engage, empower, and prepare undergraduate, graduate students and alumni for their futures including continued education and meaningful, relevant employment.
The Center utilizes best practices to provide innovative services, programs, resources, and experiential learning opportunities to enhance each student's academic experience; and aid students in translating both their academic and co-curricular experiences into professional employment opportunities. The Center provides critical services and programming which support career readiness among students; enabling students to enter the workforce polished, competitive, and capable of navigating an ever-changing workforce.
This position is an important role within USG's CISC, responsible for providing significant support in the areas of employer outreach, development of strategic partnerships, employer engagement, coordination of experiential learning opportunities, and coordination of post-graduation employment opportunities for students at USG. This position is also responsible for collaborating with USG's academic partners and the regional business community to coordinate employer recruiting activity on the USG campus, as well as employer engagement activities, which support career readiness for students at USG.
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education Master's degree preferred in Higher Educational Administration, Counseling, Student Services Personnel, Human Resources, Business or a closely related field.
Minimum of three to five years of professional experience in career services, student affairs, human resources, or workforce development required. Previous experience with career coaching, and development of student-related programming required. Previous experience developing and executing internship, service-learning, experiential learning or other co-curricular programs
Previous experience with an understanding of employment law preferred. Previous professional experience and understanding of the Montgomery County and State of Maryland regional business communities preferred. Professional experience with the University System of Maryland, its partner institutions, and/or regional higher education centers preferred.
Career Coaching certification by NACE, PARW/CC, NCDA or other professionally recognized certifying agency.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong relationship building skills and an understanding of the regional business community.
Leadership skills and the ability to work both individually and collaboratively within a group.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent written and communication skills, strong public speaking skills, and the ability to use current social media tools.
Knowledge regarding the policies, practices, and procedures involved in a career services operation in a university environment, including program development, and knowledge of business and industry opportunities.
Skills appropriate to the task of developing experiential learning and internship opportunities, business relationships, and coordination with institutional partners, intended to assist a variety of constituents including students, alumni, faculty, and administrators from many different campuses, as well as, the local business community.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills consistent with building both developmentally supportive relationships with students, as well as mutually beneficial, ongoing, supportive and professional relationships with employers.
Excellent customer service skills and an ability to handle a fast-paced work environment. Professional demeanor a must. Some evening and Saturday work required.
This position is located in Rockville, MD.
