Duties and Responsibilities:
Service Center Information: It is the mission of USG's Career and Internship Services Center (CISC) to collaborate with USM partner institutions and the regional business community to engage, empower, and prepare undergraduate, graduate students and alumni for their futures including continued education and meaningful, relevant employment.
The Center utilizes best practices to provide innovative services, programs, resources, and experiential learning opportunities to enhance each student's academic experience; and aid students in translating both their academic and co-curricular experiences into professional employment opportunities. The Center provides critical services and programming which support career readiness among students; enabling students to enter the workforce polished, competitive, and capable of navigating an ever-changing workforce.
This position will be responsible for the management of the Career Center's operations. Provides leadership, planning, and delivery of critical services to USG's constituent groups; with a focus on daily operational strategy, staff, budget, programming, academic collaborations; experiential learning activities; data collection, analysis, and reporting; and the advance of technology, and virtual platforms.
Responsible for the implementation and overall management of the new industry cluster based coaching model. Conducts individual and group career coaching. Lead efforts to implement new Industry clusters to include business & Communication; Allied Health; Education, Social Sciences & Humanities; and STEM. Collaborate with partner institutions, academic program representatives, faculty, and staff to provide tailored career readiness programs and services in accordance with specific program needs. Manage Center's Simplicity database, expand virtual platforms to provide programming and services to students remotely, and improve the use of other technologies.
Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education Master's degree in Higher Educational Administration, Student Services Personnel, Human Resources, business or a closely related field required.
Counseling or Career Coaching certification by NACE, PARW/CC, NCDA or other professionally recognized certifying agency required.
Minimum of 5-7 years of professional experience in career services, student affairs, human resources, or workforce development Managerial experience with strategy implementation, collaborative partnerships, project management, performance measurement, talent management, and budget oversight required. Previous experience with career coaching, and development of student-related programming required.
Previous experience with and understanding of employment law Previous professional experience and understanding of the Montgomery County and State of Maryland regional business communities preferred. Professional experience with the University System of Maryland, its partner institutions, and/or regional higher education centers preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Leadership skills, the ability to work well both individually and within a group, and the ability to successfully collaborate with USG's partner institutions, partner Career Centers and academic program representatives.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Employee should also demonstrate excellent written and communication skills, demonstrate strong public speaking skills, and hold the ability to develop positive, ongoing relationships with employers.
Employee should also have strong interpersonal and communication skills consistent with counseling and building developmentally supportive relationships with students.
Knowledge and experience in the areas of strategy implementation, service delivery, project management, performance management, strategic partnerships, and talent management.
Ability to successfully navigate in a higher education environment, with the ability to manage direct services and programming for undergraduate and graduate students, as well as other constituents.
Understanding of career readiness competencies, general employment guidelines and trends, employer hiring/human resources processes, and regional workforce needs.
Understanding of the policies, practices, and procedures involved in a career services operation in a university environment, including knowledge of business and industry opportunities.
Understanding of professional development and experiential learning activities for students, including knowledge of how to manage co-curricular programs, which provide meaningful outcomes for students.
