Director of Career Services
Position Summary: Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Student Success, this full-time professional staff member will develop career planning and preparation programming, present career-readiness presentations and seminars, and maintain and develop beneficial relationships with businesses and industries with the overall effect of guiding students in realizing their academic and career potential.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Supervise a staff including a career counselor, employer relations coordinator, administrative assistant, graduate assistant, and student workers • Develop new contacts with internal and external organizations for the purpose of expanding employment and career opportunities for students and alumni • Develop and implement marketing strategies for Norman Career Services that also support the marketing efforts of the university and its academic colleges and departments • Coordinate communication with deans, department heads, and other faculty to ensure Norman Career Services is meeting the needs of the students and faculty within the academic colleges and departments • Develop and implement new programs under the leadership of the Assistant Vice President for Student Success • Provide career counseling/advising to students and alumni regarding the career decision-making processes, interviewing, resume formulation, letter writing, appropriate dress and etiquette, and all other facets of career preparation • Facilitate workshops, seminars, and other presentations to student, faculty, employer and alumni groups • Host, organize, and attend career fairs on and off campus • Manage Norman Career Services web-based services and technology functions • Track graduate and student placement through surveys and student/employer contact • Provide assessment and evaluation of Norman Career Services and make recommendations for improvement • Other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements: • Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, College Student Personnel, Counseling, Student Affairs or related field. • Minimum of three years of progressively responsible work experience in the area of Career Services.
Preferred Qualifications: • Professional experience working in career services at a college or university • Experience supervising professional staff • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with students, parents, faculty, and business and industry professionals • Dedication to creating a collaborative and creative work environment • Ability to develop, lead, and manage multiple projects • Detail oriented and the ability to prioritize| • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software, willingness to learn BANNER Student Information System, Handshake, Big Interview, Candid Careers, Focus 2, and other administrative systems • Data analytics experience with ability to make empirically-based decisions • Strategic planning experience (internal and external reviews) • Proficiency in the use of professional and social networking sites • Ability to manage a budget
