Director, Career Education and The Major Experience

Duties and Responsibilities:
Administer the Center for Career Education at Millsaps College, offering comprehensive career services for students and alumni – career counseling and testing, part-time job assistance, internships, full-time job preparation and graduate school admission assistance.
Lead the Center’s team in developing and implementing strategic plans.
Hire, educate, supervise and evaluate staff.
Handle budget responsibilities.
Represent the Center at Student Life leadership functions, as well as certain campus committees.
Serve as lead in public relations efforts with faculty and staff.
Represent the Center and Millsaps College through professional organizations.
Serve as a liaison to academic departments on campus providing information to faculty regarding upcoming events and opportunities for their students.
Submit appropriate annual reports, including outcomes data.
Serve as the College’s career counselor.
Provide individual career counseling and assessments to assist students in making solid career decisions.
Skills with the MBTI, SII and online assessments such as FOCUS preferred.
Coordinate career exploration programs with the First Year Experience and the Senior Year Experience.
The Major Experience
Oversee the Center’s role in strategic execution of the Major Experience.
Support the integration of the liberal arts, general education, experiential learning, major courses of study, co-curricular offerings and the institutional mission and values to produce career and life ready graduates.
Work collaboratively the Core Curriculum Director and the Office of Records to provide leadership and vision in establishing policies and procedures for experiential learning across the street and around the globe.
Assess outcomes related to the Major Experience.
Provide student orientations (as needed), develop new experiential program sites, submit proposals for ongoing program improvements, and collaborate with all stakeholders to achieve the goals of the experiential curriculum.
Oversee Internship Coordinator in administering the Internship-for-Credit program, as well as expanding internship opportunities for Millsaps students.
Oversee the recruitment and implementation of the Shepherd Internship Program.
Responsible for training and managing the Student Employment Intern as they administer the Student Employment for campus.
Maintain relations with on-campus and off-campus part time employers.
Work with International Student Advisor to provide educational programming for international students regarding student employment.
Work with the Office of Financial and the Business Office to administer Federal Work Study.
Post Grad Employment
Assist students with their job searches by reviewing and critiquing resumes/cover letters, conducting practice interview sessions and assisting students with job search plans.
Teach one section of ADMN 4751: Career Development each semester.
Work with departmental database on a monthly rotation. Also, support all database registrants(employers, students, and alumni) in utilizing the system.
Serve as lead in employer outreach efforts.
Organize and oversee graduate/professional school recruitment and promote special opportunities such as free graduate testing sessions, fellowships, and open houses.
Assist students/alumni with personal statements and other necessary materials for graduate admissions.
Present programs to various publics about services.
Set up locations and arrangements for guest speakers and on-campus interviews.
Work with Alumni Relations to strengthen the Major Mentor program; provide reports as needed.
Oversee online resources, web pages, and social media outlets.
Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of the Institute for Civic & Professional Engagement or the Provost.
Serve as a point of contact with a Military Liaison through the Mississippi Army National Guard.
Minimum of a Master’s degree in counseling with additional study beyond a Master’s degree preferred.
Prefer three (3) to five (5) years of employment experience in a career center in higher education. (Substitution for such experience may be permissible but should not be done lightly.)
Personal skills to handle the position: writing, presenting, administering, public relations, counseling, test administration, technology, team work, and others.
