Under the general direction of the Director of Career & Professional Development Center in the College of Natural Sciences (CNS), plans and organizes career development and experiential learning activities for CNS undergraduates, and recent alumni in cooperation with department heads and faculty. Tailored to the needs of departments, these activities may include individual counseling, career education programs/classes, assisting and developing career fairs, alumni mentoring and shadowing and career research. Works to provide a comprehensive and student development program which serves all majors, with a focus on the physical sciences and the School of Earth and Sustainability (SES). This position aligns with the College's strategic planning goals for academic success.
About CNS: CNS is the largest academic unit on the UMass Amherst campus, includes 13 departments and 2 schools, serves over 7,000 undergraduate students and nearly 1,000 graduate students, and has a presence in 18 buildings on Campus.
Bachelor's degree in Higher Education, Psychology, STEM or other relevant field, 3 years of experience in College-level career counseling, advising, human resources or field experience activities.
Understands responsibilities with respect to conflicts of interest and behaves in ways consistent both with law and with University policy.
Contributes toward creating a positive and respectful workplace defined by personal and professional competence, integrity, and collaboration.
Understands and contributes to implementation of departmental and institutional goals for achieving non-discrimination and creating a respectful, inclusive environment that is supportive of diversity.
Uses access to sensitive and/or not yet public university related information only in the performance of the responsibilities of position and exercises care to prevent unnecessary disclosure to others.
Current knowledge of job market, occupational outcomes of a variety of disciplines, and knowledge of career guidance and job search tools, such as LinkedIn.
Ability to use computers proficiently.
Demonstrated ability to work independently to organize multiple tasks and set priorities for action, take initiative, be creative, and operate with self-direction in a fast-paced office environment.
Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact effectively and work productively in establishing and maintaining harmonious working relationships with a diverse population of staff and students.
Excellent verbal, counseling, and written communication skills, including strong presentation skills incorporating current technology.
Experience with career management systems such as eRecruiting, NACElink, Handshake, as well as using Job Boards.
Experience in writing and teaching about resumes and cover letters, in addition to interview preparation and job search strategies.
Ability and willingness to travel.

Experience with assessment methodologies and data analysis.
