Auburn University, College of Architecture, Design and Construction, McWhorter School of Building Science, seeks an individual with a commitment to student-employer relationship building, follow-through, and relationship management for a Career Services Specialist position.
Essential functions include, but are not limited to: develops and maintains effective contact with firms, institutions, companies, and other employers in the construction field. Serves as a liaison with faculty and other academic advisors seeking career opportunities for students and young alumni of Building Science. This position requires some daily and occasional overnight travel. Duties will include work in the evening, and occasional weekend activities/travel.
Proactively identifies potential prospects for contact through research and screenings to include current/past recruiting relationships, internship/coop, summer job employers, industry rankings, specific region research, alumni relationships, professional/community organizations and social media efforts. Participation in select professional organizations and attendance at select professional organization conferences is part of research/relationship-building activities.
Works with Development staff to secure financial sponsorship's and contributions from organizations. Facilitates student workshops, career placement events, and recruitment efforts. Advises current Building Science students regarding resumes, interview tips, and job placement advice.
Coordinates with employers to facilitate job posting/recruitment activities and assesses/reports job placement outcomes. Confers with School Head, program chairs, faculty, and development staff on identifying and following-up on leads. Coordinates participation with other college level staff/offices on events related to marketing/promoting/representing the college to potential employers, alumni, and other groups.
Coordinates with the college communications office to design content, format, production, and update of print, website, and social media applications related to employer development.
Updates and informs Building Science leadership on the status of goals, activities, progress, and outcomes to ensure a cooperative team effort is made to assist employers in a coordinated and professional manner.
Collaborates and participates with other Building Science staff in strategizing, implementing, managing, and staffing employer development and other programming activities.
Entry into the applicant pool requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in human resources, business administration, or relevant construction industry experience. Plus, two (2) years' experience in coordinating and/or providing career services and/or programs. Employer will consider advanced degree in lieu of experience.
Experience initiating contact with industry executives and experience managing existing corporate relationships is required. An ability to work independently while meeting outcome expectations is essential. Developed skills with organizing, scheduling, managing, reporting, and assessing contacts, engagements and outcomes is needed from a personal skills and technology applications perspective. The ability to represent the School of Building Science and its programs in a clear, concise and compelling manner is required. A sensitivity to identify and maintain confidential information, communications, and relationships. The ability to multi-task; to be attentive to details; to meet deadlines; and to effectively engage with multiple personalities, occupational levels and diverse populations are required.
