The Director is responsible for overseeing all administrative functions of The Hub, the advising and student success center in the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). The Director will oversee an advisement team that is responsible for mentoring students who major in programs within CAS. The Director's administrative oversight includes, but is not limited to, staff supervision and performance review, serving as the primary representative for internal and external stakeholders, fiscal management and budgeting, program development and coordination, and assessment initiatives that aim to improve services within The Hub. Responsibilities include:
Leadership and Performance Management:
Directly responsible for hiring and training departmental staff
Coordinate on-going professional development opportunities
Assign job duties and supervise the advising staff in the completion of job responsibilities
Complete annual performance evaluations for staff
Develop, implement, and assess advising interventions and programs to address factors that influence retention, progression, and degree completion within CAS
Oversee the daily operations of The Hub
Address complaints about the advising process and/or specific advisors
Collaborate with UTC's Center for Advisement UTC's Center for Professional Education, CAS's professional advisors, and faculty advisors
Ensure staff are informed of updates in University, departmental, or state policies related to advising
Keep abreast of national trends and issues in higher education, advising, and tutoring.
Represent The Hub and CAS's advising initiatives within the University and community
Develop and maintain close working relationships with other Enrollment Management and Student Success Directors, Department Heads, and Departmental Professional Advisors
Collaborate with CAS and other college's administrative and academic departments as needed to improve career and academic advising
Function as an expert on advising-related inquiries
Serve on CAS and University committees as needed
Serve on the Advisors’ Council Leadership team to liaison with Enrollment Management and Student Success
Provide academic advising to students
Special Projects and Other Duties
Coordinate the campus-wide freshmen and transfer new student preregistration process (AIQ)
Serve as back up for the advising staff in covering CAS student appointments and walk-in hours
Other duties as assigned
Budgeting and fiscal management; includes collaborating with CAS's budget manager.
Master's degree required; Master's degree in the field of advising, counseling, higher education administration, or a related field is preferred. A minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in academic advising, student services, career development, or student counseling in higher education is required. Must have supervisory and management skills; strong experience in training is required. Must possess strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills; strong organizational and time management skills; ability to multi-task; must be detail oriented and display a high degree of accuracy. Must have the ability to generate reports, compile information, and analyze results. Must have knowledge and understanding of student development and academic advising theories; ability to establish and maintain working relations with diverse constituencies. Must have the ability to explain complex university policies and procedures to diverse populations. Must be experienced with technology to include office equipment (computer, copier, fax, etc.,) and work with related software, such as Microsoft Office, Banner, and other Student Services information systems. Must have excellent professional oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills. Occasional evenings and weekends are required. Occasional overnight travel is required.
