Drawing from advanced academic education and years of experience in a higher education student services role, the Assistant Director, School of Business Career Development Center is responsible for developing a comprehensive strategic plan for creating, implementing and evaluating effective career services programs to meet the needs of USD Undergraduate business students and alumni (clients). The position serves over 1,500 current undergraduate business students. The Assistant Director, School of Business Career Development Center develops a program that is supportive of the strategic goals and mission of the School of Business Administration, and supports the administration of the Professional Development Passport Program.
The Assistant Director, School of Business Career Development Center, working with the Assistant Director of Employer Relations and Operations creates a strategy for job development and outreach to employers, and implements programs within the School of Business to provide business students with on-campus access to employer recruiting to fill jobs and internships. The Assistant Director meets individually with students to provide personalized career coaching, and implements specialized educational programs and workshops related to career decision-making, job search strategies, and building professional networks. The Assistant Director develops alliances with School of Business student organizations, staff, alumni, faculty, parents, the School of Business Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs and the School of Business Dean to create and promote professional development initiatives; and with local and national recruiters to establish new job and internship opportunities for School of Business students. Working with the Assistant Director of Assessment and Planning, the Assistant Director also collects and evaluates career survey data for the purposes of reporting placement statistics and recruiting data at the request of the University administration and for the Annual Report.
This position receives supervision from the Associate Director and exercises supervision over the Career Counselor, School of Business, as well as clerical and student staff for projects and programs.
Duties & Responsibilities:
School of Business Career Development Initiatives and Support
Supervision and Career Counseling
Master’s degree in related area (College Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling, Human Resources, Masters of Business Administration or similar degrees)
Three years of experience providing career counseling or coaching or advising in a university setting; preference given to candidates with experience working with Business majors
In-depth understanding and application of college student development theories, career development theories, and/or counseling theories.
Ability to provide responsive and confidential career counseling to diverse clients
Ability to plan and facilitate group presentations and workshops
Ability to work with community partners on and off campus; preference given to candidates with experience working with Business employers and majors
Demonstrated proficiency in one or more of the following:
educational resources management
online resources management
graduate level intern supervision
Presentation, writing, and MS-Office skills
Ability to work collaboratively on team projects with diverse individuals
Flexibility and willingness to work early mornings, evenings and weekends as needed
Special Conditions of Employment:
