POSITION OVERVIEW The Career & Internship Services (C&IS) office at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) is seeking a visionary and innovative leader to take a successful career office to the next level, by building a coordinated career network across campus. The next leader will seek to engage key constituents on campus, scale career education, and develop robust career initiatives for the UMD community. Reporting to the Vice President for Student Life & Dean of Students, with a dotted line to the Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the Director will be a facilitator of cross campus relationships, and serve as a leader not only on campus but in the University of Minnesota System.
The Director will be a connector and a visionary committed to delivering exceptional services to students and prepare them for life after Duluth. The Director will:
Direct Career and Internship Services - 70%
Leads the development of a cohesive and integrated strategy for career education for the Duluth campus, ensuring all students are prepared for their future.
Oversees the design of inclusive programming, services, and environment for staff, students, and partners of the C&IS office.
Lead and empower the C&IS professional staff to serve students and employers, and increase the impact and reach of the office.
Develop and implement scaled career education solutions which are woven into the fabric of the curriculum and student experience at UMD
Initiate and build career programs that support individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures as well as recruit and hire professional staff from diverse backgrounds.
Leads the process to develop, gather, and synthesize career related data to effectively tell the UMD story to students, constituents on campus, prospective families, employers, and external stakeholders.
Directs C&IS strategic planning, assessment, and program review.
Provide Career Education Leadership and Information to the UMD Campus Community - 15%
Meet regularly with deans, faculty, and key staff for the purpose of building a strong career ecosystem across campus.
Consult and communicate with other divisions and departments at UMD in connecting and building campus career initiatives.
Provide Leadership in the Development of Career Partnerships with External Stakeholders - 10%
Ensure intentional growth of partnerships and connections between UMD and the employment community locally, regionally, and nationally.
Represents the university at external events.
Participate in Professional Service and Development - 5%
Represents the university at professional associations, including serving as a leader within the University of Minnesota System
BA/BS with at least 10 years of experience years in higher education career services, workforce development, human resources, or related field.
Master's degree in Higher Education, Business, Leadership, or related field
Minimum of 3 years supervising and leading teams
Proven track record of building partnerships across departments and divisions
Demonstrated success of creating initiatives to achieve scalable impact
Experience in growing partnerships with external constituents
Minimum of 3 years working within an office of career development
Previous experience leading complex networks internal and external to an organization
Demonstration of leading strategic and innovative change across communities
The successful candidate with be a positive, collaborative, visionary leader who can empower a team and campus to scale career education.
The Director will be a convener of stakeholders who can build effective relationships and programs through thoughtful listening and dialogue .
The Director will understand how data informs strategy and be able to effectively transform data into a powerful narrative, while understanding key issues and emerging trends within the field of higher education and career services.
