CAREER SERVICES PROGRAM MANAGEMENT:
Counseling: ensures that professional Assistant Directors are providing the full range of career services pertaining to the specific career program.
Programs: oversees the planning and implementation of programs for counseling team to meet the needs of students relevant to current market trends.
Plays a primary role in facilitating and implementing key functions within counseling and programs area such as systems management, data collection and analysis, and managing a constituency model:
Oversee and train others in the use of technical resources including Career Center software (Handshake, Qualtrics, EMS, web content management systems, etc)
Interpret and present data findings to other career center managers, campus liaisons, and employer partners, practices and procedures utilized by front desk staff in utilizing counselor appointment system
Train and write protocols and procedures utilized by front desk staff in utilizing counselor appointment system
Coordinate external requests and outreach activities such as career fairs, satellite offices, and residence hall presentations
Oversee career resources such as annual subscriptions, print materials, and career-development and career-field related sections of the website
Manage scheduling of workshops and events in coordination with employer relations and administrative services
Determine content and schedule for counselor meetings (held on weekly basis
Liaison with employer relation staff to convey information to counseling staff regarding recruiting timelines and policies
Provides leadership, guidance, and direction on complex and particularly sensitive issues and situations. Supervises approximately 6-7 Assistant Directors in one of the program areas, and coordinates graduate interns and student workers including hiring, training, reviewing performance, and encouraging professional development.
Supervises Assistant Directors work with students/alumni on career development, prioritization and decision making, cross-cultural influences, and interactions with potential employers.
Provides guidance to Assistant Directors on yearly program planning, delivering content and leading events as needed.
Monitors employee performance and provides direction and assistance, evaluates employee performance. Provides ongoing support through feedback, and guides goal setting. Provides training to subordinates and recommends employees for merit recognition and promotion when warranted.
Makes decisions on performance, hiring decisions, disciplinary action, and other human resources related issues of managed staff.
STRATEGIC SERVICES ANALYSIS:
Ascertains the needs and expectations of students and specific groups (athletes, transfer students, reentry etc.) and develops necessary policy and programmatic enhancements in consultation with manager to meet those developing needs.
Develops the short-term and long-term strategic planning activities of counseling and programs.
Represent counseling on the Center’s Management Team and contributes to the overall planning and development of policies of unit.
Provides feedback to manager on gaps of service to clients, and recommends changes/enhancements to the counseling program.
Ensures smooth working relationships with other campus departments, external schools, corporations, and other organizations related to career programs
Evaluate and implement initiatives with office wide implications such as Handshake, Big Interview, 12/Twenty
CAREER COUNSELING AND PROGRAMS:
Counsels undergraduate and graduate students and alumni on career options and opportunities, including customized services for specific populations, within specific academic disciplines.
Provides individual and group counseling and consultation to students with distinct academic and career field interests through standard appointments and/or brief consultations.
Advanced knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, coaching and counseling processes, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques.
Knowledge of needs assessment theory, processes, and practice, workshop and program design.
Knowledge of UC programs, career services, employer, alumni, and faculty needs and expectations, recruiting and staffing methods, employment trends.
Minimally, 3-5 years experience supervising professional staff
Ability to design and modify computer applications and to meet program needs, problem identification, presentation skills, verbal communication, written communication, and organizational skills.
Competency with program planning and project management.
Strong communication skills.
Ability to work with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds
