Xavier University is seeking a dynamic, collaborative, results-focused leader to serve as Director of Career Development. The Director will promote the value of personal, academic, and career planning to the University community. The Director will bolster Xavier support systems designed to help students determine who they are in this academic environment, what they want to accomplish, and how to be successful upon graduation. They will pay close attention to the psycho-social and professional development of students and collaborate with faculty, staff, employers, mentors, and alumni to do so. To that end, the Director ensures that post-graduate planning is a key component of an integrated student learning and development plan and sees its connection with retention. While it is important for students to plan for what they will do after graduation, Xavier considers it equally important that student also consider who they will become as citizens in a global world while setting goals as to what they want to accomplish during college.
The Career Development Office includes career coaching and programming, student employment, the Xavier University Mentoring Program, First Destination Outcomes Assessment, and Employer and Graduate School Relations for the entire campus. The Director is responsible for implementing the goals and strategies identified for the comprehensive functions within the Center. The Director will bolster support systems at Xavier designed to help students determine who they are in this academic environment, what they want to accomplish, and how to be successful upon graduation.
The Director will have a track record of delivering exemplary outcomes as well as building and leading a team of ten staff members – a team expected to work collaboratively across the institution and with multiple external constituents. Demonstrated experience with developing employer relationships is essential as well as knowledge of regional, national and international employment trends. The Director will work in partnership with the Enrollment Intelligence staff, to analyze university, CDO, retention, student development, and employment data to identify student and alumni needs, and promote academic success and career-related opportunities for students and alumni. Finally, they must be able to articulate a vision for how the institution can further its progress in establishing itself as leader in the field of career development.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Departmental oversight and management;
Budget planning and management;
Staff supervision and mentoring;
Evaluation and assessment of the functional areas under the CDO umbrella;
Identifying and securing grant funding to bolster programs;
Providing guidance on employer development and growth;
Representing the CDO within relevant networks and consortia;
Identifying opportunities for employer sponsorships to promote the career development needs of all students at Xavier;
Knowing relevant legal issues especially pertaining to employment, recruiting, internships, and confidentiality/FERPA; and
Supporting the Executive Director, AVP, and VP of Enrollment Management and Student Success, in strategically positioning the CDO with internal and external partners to advance its mission.
