The inaugural Director of TC Next will bring to life a vision of a new kind of career and professional development support for students enrolled in and graduating from the nation’s oldest and largest graduate school of education, health, psychology, and leadership.
The Director will be responsible for building this new office, and for providing strategic leadership in the development and implementation of innovative, comprehensive, and centralized initiatives for post-graduate success through an integrated approach to career and professional development.
TC NEXT will provide current students and alumnae with career counseling and postgraduate counseling, access to networking and community engagement, internships, research opportunities and fellowships, career identification, and job search assistance. The Director of TC NEXT will engage faculty in the development of learning opportunities to connect the graduate curriculum at TC with post graduate academic and career success in all sectors.
This position reports to the Vice Provost for Student Affairs.
Develop and supervise all aspects of TC NEXT, including the strategy for launching the office/initiative within the community and beyond. This will include assessing what currently exists for career support and making decisions about what to continue and what to rethink, including: career advisement for students and alumni, career search strategies, cultivation and promotion of on-campus student employment opportunities, doctoral program counseling and application assistance, access to fellowships and scholarships, grants, research opportunities, and the development of relationships with potential employers, fieldwork and internship providers. Initiate, develop, and implement post-graduation career development activities to enhance post graduate success for students and alumni.
Ensure that all TC NEXT initiatives align with the College’s varying and evolving curriculum. Work collaboratively with leadership, faculty, and staff across the College. Seek faculty involvement in identifying opportunities to bridge the academic development that takes place in the classroom with co-curricular (internships, fellowships, research, and jobs) and post graduate opportunities.
Identify and collaborate with campus partners including enrollment services, academic departments and programs, institutional research, alumni relations, development and external affairs and other offices to create an integrated approach and vision of post-graduate success.
Implement recruitment and employer engagement strategies to foster and develop new and existing relationships.
Manage the administrative operations of the office and provide mentorship and staff development opportunities to the staff of TC NEXT. Evaluate and implement the use of technology and systems. Manage, evaluate, and report on data regarding student outcomes.
The right candidate for this position may have a career development background, or may bring another set of relevant skills that would equip them to take on this leadership role.
• Minimum 7 + years of related experience with at least 5 years’ experience managing a team • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated experience using data and reporting to measure results against goals and metrics. • Exceptional team building, organizational & leadership skills. Ability to create and manage a budget.
Master’s degree or higher in management or other business field, student services, education, or related discipline
Experience in higher education
Knowledge and understanding of compliance and regulatory issues related to career and student employment
Demonstrated knowledge of current technology and web-based applications in career services, grants and fellowship
