POSITION PURPOSE Whitman is committed to providing high-quality, comprehensive and relevant career advising to our students and alumni. In addition, Whitman prides itself on providing creative and timely programming to give students exposure to the enormous array of professional options available to Whitman graduates. This position will allow the College to effectively support student and young alumni access to career and internship recruiting across the breadth of professional sectors. They will oversee all functions of employer relations, career field & employer market education, and student preparation for employer engagement; connecting students to internship and post-graduate recruiting cycles. This position will also have programming responsibilities for on-campus student employment. The Assistant Director will work collaboratively with the SEC staff, on-campus partners and off-campus employers to provide opportunities for students to flex their acumen and skillsets in workplace settings.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES 1. Cultivate relationships between employers and students, overseeing a recruiting program with employers from all sectors a. Work collaboratively with Whitman faculty, staff and alumni and particularly with the Alumni Relations team to help current students access Whitman alumni in the professional world b. Develop a robust recruiting & outreach strategy that allows employers and students to connect through online, virtual and in person programming for internships and early career positions c. Collaborate with colleagues at Walla Walla University and Walla Walla Community College on events and programs related to networking and employer access d. Organize and facilitate a consistent and trackable process for hosting employers at Whitman 2. Maintain a flow of information on employment trends and career opportunities for graduating students. a. Provide excellent individual and small group advising for students and young alumni in regard to employment market and recruiting processes across all sectors b. Collaborate on programming to support students pursuing highly-competitive career sectors 3. Oversee centralized student employment programs, building clear and consistent practices to improve experiences for students, staff and faculty a. Collaborate with Student Employment Advisory Group to maintain and communicate campus-wide priority b. Manage new and existing programs and platforms related to student employment c. Develop communications strategies for students and on-campus supervisors to ensure resources are accessible d. Supervise Student Employment Intern in execution of Match, GROW and orientation programs 4. Utilize effective and current technologies and communication outlets in all facets of work 5. Collect, analyze and evaluate data for continuous program improvement 6. Oversee student workers in relevant program areas; providing skill specific training 7. Other duties may be assigned as needed to support the goals of the Center 8. Positively and actively contribute to the college's core values of diversity, equity and inclusion
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES • Familiarity with employment trends across a range of industries and professions • Understanding of and appreciation for liberal arts education highly preferred • Strong interpersonal skills with an ability to develop rapport across diverse audiences • Comfort with technology platforms and drawing from them to help inform decisions • Knowledge and experience with managing programs and organizing events • Previous experience in student advising or employee coaching • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team • Must be a self-starter, able to function comfortably in a fluid, innovative setting • Demonstrated excellence in organization and attention to detail • Ability to maintain confidentiality of records and information
QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor's degree in a related field • 2-3 years of experience in human resources, recruiting or business development roles
