The Hiatt Career Center supports Brandeis undergraduate students and alumni in developing the skills to transform their unique backgrounds, liberal arts education and experiential learning into meaningful professional futures and relationships. We help students identify who they are, what they want and how to get there. Our approach is rooted in providing modern career services for modern careers, focusing on life-long skills, creating campus ecosystems for career development, and holding a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
The Associate Director is part of the career center senior leadership team, oversees the career counseling team, manages educational career programming and outreach, supports office assessment, and meets with students. Key Responsibilities:
Leadership
- Supervise team of 5-6 career counselors and indirectly supervise a team of 5-8 peer advisors.
- Provide support for individuals’ growth and development as career counselors and higher education administrators.
- Establish and manage educational career programming for undergraduate students, coordinate and supervise team’s efforts on outreach, programming, and marketing.
- Manage team’s operating and student staffing budgets.
- Analyze and review data, create appropriate assessment of services and produce reports on operations.
- Contribute to the overall strategic direction shape office strategy, promote healthy team culture, facilitate trainings, and collaborate on professional development retreats for staff.
Career Development
- Provide direct career counseling services to undergraduate students and alumni. Career topics include career exploration, decision-making, self-assessment, goal setting, career research, internship/job search process, and applying to graduate school. Counselors are generalists, have an area of focus, and cross-train each other to support students and alumni.
- Consider a range of career development theories and apply interventions for students’ needs.
- Maintain and communicate a knowledge base of occupational, career, and job information resources and technologies as well as an understanding of the labor market, employment trends, and recruiting strategies and techniques for students.
Campus Engagement
- Develop relationships and foster partnerships with a broad base of constituents, both academic and nonacademic, throughout campus to support the mission of career services.
- Collaborate with other members of the community to develop specialized resources, programs, workshops, or events.
- Initiate and create new resources, programming, and presentations on career topics for students including developing tailored communications or website content.
- Oversee the World of Work (WOW) fellowship program including marketing, recruiting, selection, budgeting, distributing funds, communicating with recipients, employers, donors, and enforcing program requirements.
Work Environment
- This is a full-time exempt and benefits-eligible role working 35 hours/week with a hybrid work schedule and flexible work hours as appropriate.

Minimum Qualifications:
The Associate Director would have experience with career counseling, supervising professional staff, knowledge of relevant career theories, experience presenting and communicating ideas to large groups, and experience working with diverse populations. Master's degree in counseling, higher education, or related with relevant work and supervisory experience. Experience with career and/or student development theories, assessments, and interventions.
