The person in this position will be the administrator of Career and Professional Development to help WTAMU students find meaningful employment opportunities while in college and after graduation. The department assists students with career exploration, internships, employer relations and professional development. Career and Professional Development is staffed by the Director, an Associate Director, an Assistant Director, five coordinators (two for employer relations, and three for student development), a Senior Administrative Associate, and several student employees and interns. The position is supervised by the Assistant VP for Student Enrollment, Engagement and Success. The normal work week is 40 hours per week from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Some evening and weekend work required.
Responsibilities:
Leadership
-
Develops departmental mission, goals, objectives and strategic plans on a yearly basis and develops procedures and programs to meet those goals and objectives.

Coordinates directly with academic Colleges, employers, alumni, and students regarding the objectives of the department.

Prepares and administers related budgets and insures compliance with University policies and procedures.

Conducts periodic evaluations of operations, personnel, use of resources and programs.

Hires, supervises, develops, and evaluates the staff members of Career Services.

Develops and maintains statistical records and reports.

Develops and implements marketing plans for the department.

Represents Career and Professional Development on campus and in the community.

Leads departmental staff meetings and professional development opportunities.

Participates in division and departmental meetings, and serves on committees as requested by division leadership.
Career & Professional Development

Develops and maintains effective relationships with employers. Works with local, state and national employers to secure employment opportunities for WTAMU students and graduates of all majors.

Advises students, alumni and community members during all stages of career exploration and decision making.

Develops and directs workshops and seminars to prepare students for the job search process.

Oversees the planning, coordination and hosting of career fairs, on-campus interviews, job shadowing opportunities, internships, mock interviews, professional speaker series, workshops, and networking events.

Collaborates with faculty and staff to increase employment opportunities for students.

Facilitates relationships between employers and the University community, including students, faculty, staff, Alumni Association, etc.

Necessary Qualifications:

Master’s degree or equivalent experience and education.
-
Seven years of related experience.
-
Demonstrated successful experience in higher education, public relations, public speaking, program planning, records management, staff supervision, budget development, strategic planning and/or administration.

Excellent leadership skills.
-
Ability to work in a team environment, under pressure.
-
Outstanding organizational skills including the ability to coordinate multiple demanding projects simultaneously.

Ability to work with community leaders, business and industry leaders, and all levels of college personnel.

Exceptional interpersonal, public speaking, oral and written communication, and marketing skills.

Demonstrated interest in advising and assisting others.

Ability to use database systems and other current technologies.

Professional demeanor.
Preferred Qualifications:

Master’s or Doctorate in human resources, business, communications, student personnel administration or related field.

Experience in working with a college population.

Certified Career/Vocational Counselor.

Career advising, marketing and/or sales experience.
