Working closely with the Texas Career Engagement leadership team, the successful candidate will develop and lead an identity-centered, multi-disciplinary, all-sector career coaching and career counseling program that builds collaborative efforts across campus and that provides high-quality career education to all UT Austin undergraduate students and recent alumni.

This is an Austin, TX-based position and is eligible for hybrid work.

Responsibilities 

• Create, lead, supervise, and mentor a team of career coaches who are professionally prepared and qualified to provide high-quality career and professional development and a team of career counselors with the background, training and education required to provide meaningful career counseling. Maintain compliance with all related federal, state, institutional, UT System, NCDA, and NACE regulations, guidelines, and best practices, and ensure staff do likewise. Provide campus-wide leadership within the career coaching and career counseling space. Lead discussions on innovation and trends to help the University prepare for and change with advancements in the field. Provide training and support of new staff in the college career centers.
• Provide leadership in developing, creating and implementing identity-centered programs, resources and services to ensure equitable access to career education for all UT Austin students. Create and maintain relationships with campus partners in the DEI space and collaborate to provide specialized programming for underrepresented students.
• Create and deliver career and professional development programming to support students’ career preparedness and skill development, and to advance students’ success in post-graduation planning. Develop and deliver career counseling programming to help students find coherent paths through the University that suit their academic and career interests. Develop and grow peer-to-peer career mentorship and coaching initiatives.
• Collaborate with campus partners to integrate career competencies into the wider student experience and to foster a campus culture that uses the core competencies to articulate the strengths of a UT education. Collaborate with campus partners to develop tailored programming and resources for college-specific needs. Partner with faculty and faculty groups on campus to promote career curriculum integration and career development awareness in the classroom. Educate students, campus partners, families and others on the value of career education and preparation for post-graduation success.
• Develop, implement and lead a faculty and staff training model to develop career advocates across campus.
• Work with Texas Career Engagement leadership team to help develop employer engagement strategies that meet the current needs of students and that help employers better communicate and connect with students; to support data collection, analytics and assessment in areas related to career education, learning development and outcomes; and to complement internship and career experiences programs. Collect career education data and provide regular reports. Collaborate with University Communications on the collection and presentation of student success stories. Represent Texas Career Engagement at high-profile events, committee meetings and work-groups. Attend conferences and professional development meetings pertinent to advancing career services.

Master's degree in education, counseling, or a related field. At least five years of professional experience in career services, higher education or related industry role performing a variety of career coaching and career counseling-related activities. Proven ability to establish and maintain effective rapport with students and campus partners. Demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor and develop staff. Excellent event planning and project management skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and logistics for career-related programming. Excellent public speaking and written communication skills. Ability to multi-task and operate under high-pressure situations. Ability to work independently as well as within a team. Proficiency in Microsoft Office. Attention to detail. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Requirements

The ideal candidate will exceed the required qualifications and have significant experience at a director or associate director level. Experience developing career coaching and career counseling teams in a university setting. Proficient knowledge of and experience with NACE core competencies. Experience preparing students for post-graduation success through career education and skill and professional development. Experience working with faculty on career education curriculum integration. Ability to effectively interact and develop relationships with campus partners. Experience supervising staff and graduate students. Familiarity with UT departments and campus programs.
