Position

Western Colorado University is seeking a Director of Career Services to support and advise students with their career plans. 

Duties

The Director of Career Services leads and manages the Office of Career Services, and provides leadership, vision, strategy, innovation, and continuous improvement to the execution and implementation to career services for all students campus-wide. Through tailored approaches and application of an array of tools and resources, the Director of Career Services advises students in career planning, graduate school planning, and job search.   This position reports to the Vice President for Advancement and works closely with Alumni Relations. 

Responsibilities

• Management of, and vision setting for, the Office of Career Services, including relationship, website, tools, resources, event and program development (and/or operations) and execution to support students in identifying and pursuing experiential learning and career development opportunities. Management of student workers and interns, as appropriate. Development of effective campus-wide working relationships with students and student groups, faculty and university staff, alumni/alumni relations and their programs.
• Create career development training curriculum for all students and provide career planning, graduate school planning, job search strategies and career & job skills to students through online learning modules, group workshops, embedding content into courses, one-on-one meetings and presentations.
• Develop competitive and marketplace intelligence on employment trends, create and implement strategic growth plans to increase the volume of employers open to hiring interns and FT positions.  Develop employer relationships with respect to career development, job placement and the needs of employers, in order to aid in the development of appropriate external relationships and strategies for potential internship and overall support of students in identifying and pursuing experiential learning and career development opportunities.
• Career engagement and outcomes data tracking and progress reporting to academic colleges, senior administrators and the campus.  Assist with career success marketing at the institutional level.  Meet HLC and statewide ROI reporting requirements.
• Budget management and administration. 

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree.  Computing skills, including Windows, Word, Excel, e-mail, and Internet browsers.   Ability to multi-task effectively and efficiently.   Energetic, self-starter with ability to prioritize tasks.  Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication.  Ability to conduct surveys and analyze data.  Team first approach with a punctual, responsible and ethical foundation.

Preferred Qualifications:   Career development, job placement, relationship management or related experience strongly preferred, with ability to teach and consult students on career development, résumés, interviewing skills, and job search strategies, and other. Master’s degree preferred.  Experience in process driven business, career services, job search, relationship management or related fields/functions strongly preferred, with experience in higher education a plus.
