POSITION PURPOSE
Whitman College is committed to providing high-quality, comprehensive and relevant career advising to our students and alumni. In addition, Whitman prides itself on providing creative and timely programming to give students exposure to the enormous array of professional options available to our graduates.
This position in the Career and Community Engagement Center (CCEC) will allow the College to build many relevant methods for students to benefit from alumni engagement in their career and professional development, while also effectively supporting young alumni in the early steps of post-Whitman trajectories. This role will oversee CCEC programs and collaborations that connect students and recent grads with alumni through panel events, online forums and platforms, networking activity, job shadowing and mentoring relationships. The Assistant Director will work collaboratively with Whitman faculty, CCEC staff and campus partners to build a cohesive bridge that connects and supports students and recent graduates in planning and pursuing life after Whitman College.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
Create and implement a strategy for the expansion of career mentoring methods and scale through the existing career coaching program
Oversee effective flash mentoring of first year and second year students
Integrate paired and other mentoring into the program for third year students
Increase campus exposure to alumni working across a range of professional realms and geographies
Collaborate with CCEC staff, Alumni Relations staff, Whitman faculty and other campus offices on events related to alumni careers
Partner with the Alumni Relations Office in hosting and expanding student-alumni networking events
Develop a robust job shadow program that supports in-person and virtual engagements to extend student learning of career options
Utilize media and online platforms to highlight the breadth of professional trajectories pursued by Whitman alumni
Partner with campus offices to integrate mentoring activities or programs into relevant campus activities, examples include: student athletes, identity groups, Greek life, outdoor program, etc.
Effectively communicate the scope and impact of mentoring to the Whitman community and beyond by providing materials, media, data, stories and presentations about programs and outcomes to constituents, campus offices and prospective families
Engage actively in CCEC staff initiatives that provide individual career coaching to all students at Whitman
Utilize effective and current technologies and communication outlets in all facets of work
Collect, analyze and evaluate data for continuous program improvement
Complete other duties assigned as needed to support the goals of the Center
