The Career Services department seeks an Assistant Director to develop integrated service models to achieve annual goals in alignment with department, division, and university mission statements. In addition, this position advises and educates students about career paths by providing individual, small group and large group career coaching and programming. The Assistant Director works with the Director to contribute to developing the overall strategic plan for Career Services and assess progress towards goals. This position serves the undergraduate and graduate student population for the Boston campus.
This position offers a flexible work arrangement with the opportunity to work remote part of the week.
Student Advising (45%) • Advises undergraduate and graduate students regarding career development, graduation, and employment strategy • Develops new and enhances existing resources to connect students with experiences in and out of the classroom with their career aspirations • Maintains a high-level of knowledge of assigned employment markets through employer and alumni interviews and industry resources; reports trends and changes to Career Services and relevant academic programs; and identifies internship opportunities • Establishes ongoing information exchange to support student referrals between academic programs and the Career Service • Identifies best practices and industry trends for enhancing higher education career development • Pursues professional development relevant to student achievement and success
Training and Education (20%) • Establishes topic expertise to provide cutting-edge training and student career achievement and success resources to staff • Creates and presents workshops to meet professional development and learning outcomes in partnership with faculty • Contributes to sustaining and enhancing an inclusive working and learning environment • Supervises staff in absence of Director of Career Services (Boston) and directly supervises graduate assistant (when applicable)
Alumni Engagement (10%) • Identifies employer/alumni-based programs as resources for information and access to employment and industry trends • Utilizes services and expertise of University Advancement to engage alumni with students, academic programs, and the University
Collaboration and Communication (10%) • Develops integrated services with Boston academic and administrative departments to enhance student career advising across the University • Establishes methods and opportunities for regular communication and information exchange through collaborative relationships with faculty and staff in assigned academic programs to achieve academic and professional development goals • Communicates with student life and student activities to exchange information, promote each other’s events, and effectively refer students for efficient and comprehensive response to requests/needs
Other (15%) • Completes documentation and data records according to Career Service protocol, timely, and accurately • Participates on committees and special projects as assigned • Participates in some evening and weekend events as scheduled in advance • Implements opportunities to assess student interests and expectations for Career Services • Develops monthly, quarterly, and annually assessment reports as needed • Assists with monthly and annual Career Services reports as needed
Requirement:
• Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, education or other related discipline or comparable credential in workforce development or human resources • Minimum three-years direct client service in career exploration/employment preparation, higher education environment preferred • Proven success with group presentations on topics related to career success, employment preparation, professional branding, or job search strategies • Strong reputation for interpersonal communications, advising/coaching, leadership, collaboration, and relationship building • Demonstrated writing/design skills across communication platforms, communicating with diverse populations, creativity and comfort with technology • Ability to travel to other MCPHS campuses • High level proficiency with MS Office products, online searching, and contact management systems • A commitment to maintaining high professional standards • Demonstrated commitment to valuing diversity and contributing to an inclusive working and learning environment
