The Alumni & Student Connections office supports each Lute in utilizing the PLU network to help make their visions a reality. The Assistant Director of Career & Internship Development is responsible for providing career and internship related advising, support, learning, and development to all current students and alumni. This position oversees the academic internship and mentorship programs at PLU. This position also develops, implements, and connects students to opportunities for the expression of vocation after graduation from PLU in employment, service, and graduate school. This position reports to the Director of Career, Learning and Engagement.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Provide career and internship planning assistance through appointments with individuals and small group meetings both virtually and in-person. Assist students with the career development process, including making informed and meaningful choices relative to career, vocation, academics, community service, and life planning.
Work collaboratively with the Director and as a member of the ASC team to contribute to the planning, delivery, and assessment of career, internship, vocation, and alumni focused programming (i.e. events, workshops, presentations, learning experiences, and email outreach for students, campus community, and alumni).
Manage and grow the internship program, which includes promotion of opportunities to students, administration of internship and scholarship funding programs (including the PLU Internship Fund), and advising students on AICE internship credit.
Facilitate accurate and complete academic internship registration.Resolve registration issues.
Facilitate completion of statements of understanding for academic credit.Develop, plan, and manage experiential learning programs that utilize alumni volunteers which could include mentoring, informational interviewing, job shadowing, etc.
Advise students on clarifying internship and career goals and connecting with employers who currently offer and/or would like to offer internships to PLU students.
Coordinate with the Career & Internship Advisor on the resource guides and databases for students and faculty.
Contribute to ideas for continuous improvement of services for connecting with all students and focused populations including PLU graduate students, alumni, veterans, students with disabilities, and non-traditional aged students.
Assist with assessment of learning outcomes, services, program evaluation, and collection and compilation of information for reporting to key stakeholders and audiences.
Collaborate with the PLU academic division and with key partners such as the Wild Hope Center for Vocation, Wang Center for Global and Community Engaged Learning and the Division of Student Life to support high impact practices that enhance the educational experience at PLU.
Foster an appreciation for cultural and programmatic diversity of learning experiences and facilitate communication and involvement with program constituents to promote inclusiveness.
Serve on campus committees, task forces, and working groups as assigned by the Director.
Perform other duties as assigned.
