The Director of Career Development at Saint Xavier University assumes the pivotal role of conceptualizing, implementing, and managing the institution's comprehensive career readiness programs and services. Reporting to the Executive Director of Advising, Career Readiness, and Civic Engagement, the Director of Career Development seamlessly incorporates industry trends, labor market dynamics, and emerging best practices in career development initiatives across the university. This position entails the recruitment, training, and mentorship of full-time career development personnel, as well as effective management of the department's financial resources.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Stay current on emerging career development best practices, industry trends, and labor market dynamics and incorporate such findings into career development resources, workshops, webinars, and services.
Address the barriers of SXU’s diverse student population, e.g., Latinx, low-income, students of color, first generation, in accessing meaningful internships and other employment.
Provide one on one career development appointments with students across a variety of topics including career exploration, career readiness, resume writing, job searching, networking, and interviewing.
Recruit, train, and mentor full-time career development staff, paraprofessional, and student employees.
In coordination with the Associate Director, Employer Engagement and Internships, collaborate with external partners and organizations to cultivate internship pipelines and job opportunities. Organize and facilitate small and large-scale recruiting events which include employer information sessions, on-campus employer interviews, employer site visits, and job fairs.
Collect and analyze data on the effectiveness of career development programs and services and use insights to continuously improve departmental offerings.
Manage the departmental budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources.
Manage the First Destination Survey and develop campaigns to elicit student responses as well as synthetize data in collaboration with Institutional Research and report information to constituents across campus.
In collaboration with the alumni engagement office, identify strategies to leverage alumni in career development and networking opportunities with employers and students.
Collaborate with academic affairs, to identify strategies to integrate career readiness into curriculum.
Manage Saint Xavier University’s Career Closet which includes securing donations and marketing the closet to students.
Convene an Industry Advisory Board (IAB) consisting of representatives from local and regional industries to meet quarterly, discuss high-level needs, build strategies for student involvement, and enhance collaboration between SXU and employers for improved alignment of student learning objectives with in-demand industry requirements.
Other duties as assigned.
Occasional evenings and weekends will be required along with some local travel.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in related field.
3-5 years of work-experience in recruitment, HR or a career-services office in a university setting.
Strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills,
Enthusiastic and innovative,
Desire to be a part of a highly motivated and performance-oriented team.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master’s degree in related field.
Minimum of five to eight years of experience in recruitment, HR, or a career-services office in a university setting.
Knowledge of experiential learning and career development theories and best practices.
Experienced in resume writing, interview coaching, career counseling, career coaching, life coaching, or similar.
Demonstrated expertise in program development, marketing, and assessment.
Experience in event planning and working cross-departmentally and/or with outside partners.
