With a commitment to the liberal arts curriculum and the students, the Associate Director of Employer Relations and Experiential Programs oversees the College’s comprehensive on and off-campus recruiting and experiential learning programs and will lead the development and direction of an innovative array of programs and services for employers, alumni and industry contacts. The focus of these programs and services is to cultivate, sustain and continuously improve external relationships with the Career Development Office (CDO), and College. The Associate Director collaborates with other Claremont Colleges regarding the joint usage of the web-based recruiting system powered by Handshake. This position provides strategic vision and leadership for a comprehensive recruiting and external relations program for the Career Development Office, primarily driven by the goal of cultivating exceptional job and internship opportunities for Pomona students and young alumni. This role advises employers on a wide range of marketing strategies, the recruiting process, and in creating job postings. The Associate Director is also a part of the CDO senior leadership team which leads the vision and larger strategy for the office. This position supervises two full-time staff: the Assistant Director, Experiential Learning & Career Advising and the Assistant Director, Employer Relations.
Reporting directly to the Associate Dean and Senior Director, Career Development Office, the Associate Director, Employer Relations and Experiential Programs performs the following essential duties and responsibilities:
Develop an employer engagement strategy; cultivate and strengthen relationships with alumni, industry representatives/employers in a variety of industries to promote Pomona students and programs, and to identify internships, part-time, full-time and mentorship opportunities.
Work with employers, parents, prospective and current students, and alumni to discuss employment trends and new programs.
Convene meetings with students/alumni leaders to discuss recruitment strategies, and plan new collaborative efforts with student groups
Collaborate with the Assistant Dean & Deputy Director of the CDO on the coordination and facilitation of the Smart Start Fellows Program.
Maintain current knowledge of key industry trends and identify areas of opportunity growth for students and young alumni.
Manage and oversee the coordination of the CDO’s portion of the 7-C Joint-Colleges campus recruiting program.
Oversee employer engagement in the web-based recruiting system (Handshake), consortium recruiting, and experiential learning programs of the CDO which includes the Pomona College Internship Program (PCIP) (fall, spring, and summer awards).
Establish and review on-campus recruiting policies for both students and employers and ensure adherence to policies.
Develop and supervise staff; make effective recommendations for hiring, promotions/salary adjustments, evaluations, etc.
Supervise the Assistant Director of Employer Relations in the organization of employer postings, visits, interviews, events/fairs, as well as data management; support the management of the CDO’s CRM system
Supervise the Assistant Director of Experiential Learning and provide direction and guidance
Serve as a superuser for job promotion/employer engagement related platforms such as Handshake, Nutshell CRM, Parker Dewey, etc.
Collaborate with CDO colleagues to publicize recruiting events and opportunities via listservs, websites, student groups, and academic departments.
Act as point person for the Liberal Arts Career NetWORK (LACN) Employer Relations Committee and 7C Employer Relations team, ensuring membership compliance.
Oversee and evaluate current technology to ensure the software maximizes efficient and streamlined services for employer/student interactions and for CDO efficiency.
Conduct student advising individually and in groups on issues related to recruitment/job search strategies; identify and address students’ needs and skills; and formulate individualized plan of action for job seekers.
Develop and administer programs, workshops and events, promote resources, and produce training and educational materials for assigned career teams.
Collaborate with assigned faculty and campus colleagues in delivering successful recruiting events and career programming.
Serve on the CDO assessment team in designing appropriate data collection instruments; gathering and compiling data for statistical purposes; reporting findings to College administration, alumni, parents, employers and other interested parties.
Bachelor’s degree in the areas of marketing, business, human resources, or related field is required. Master’s degree in the areas of higher education, human resources, business, or a related field is preferred.
Must have at least four years of experience in college career services, human resources, recruiting, or a closely related field. A valid driver’s license required or equivalent means of reliable transportation to off-site meetings and events. Must be able to travel to/from employer/organization sites.
