Position Summary The Career Development and Employer Relations (‘CDER’) team at UNC Kenan-Flagler’s Undergraduate Business Program (‘UBP’) aims to transform students into high-performing professionals who launch successful and fulfilling careers with positive impact. The team’s mission is two-fold: 1) To support students’ career exploration, leadership, and professional development through enhanced programming and individualized coaching, which will equip students with the skills needed to acquire their desired internships and full-time jobs, as well as prepare them for long-term career success; and 2) To develop and maintain strong relationships with employers to assist in hiring top talent and making UNC and Kenan-Flagler preferred destinations for their talent acquisition needs. The CDER team sits within an academic program staff, which also includes professionals focused on admissions, academics, global programs, student engagement, wellness, and operations.
The Assistant Director (‘AD’) for Undergraduate Business Career Development and Employer Relations is responsible for the execution of many critical functions within the UBP including, but not limited to a) student career coaching, b) career development programming, c) employer relations, d) student club advising, and e) special initiatives to support both students and employers in their pursuits. The UBP enrolls approximately 1,000 majors and minors with career interests across industries and functions, both within and beyond traditional business sectors. The AD will serve as a generalist and thus must develop an understanding of a variety of internship and entry-level job markets as well as recruiting timelines and requirements. The AD will be expected to contribute to a professional, safe, inclusive, and equitable space for students, employer partners, other staff, and faculty. This position will report to the Associate Director for Career Development & Employer Relations.
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit At UNC’s Kenan-Flagler Business School, we think differently; and more importantly, we teach differently. Opening our doors as the Department of Commerce in 1919 and awarding our first degrees to 12 students in 1921 was the beginning. Today, we have become a top-ranked business school comprised of several professional and academic degree programs that serve over 3,000 students. At Kenan-Flagler, our greatest assets are our people and our culture. We are rooted in our core values of integrity, inclusion, innovation and impact, and it goes back to our founding. It’s not just something on paper, we live it, we show it. Our mission is to prepare the next generation of business leaders by providing a world class education to our students. We seek to recruit diverse, innovative, and exceptional talent to achieve this goal.
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement that may include a partially remote work location, consistent with System Office policy. UNC Chapel Hill employees are generally required to reside within a reasonable commuting distance of their assigned duty station.
