he Director of Internships is a key leadership team member within the Center for Career Development, working alongside the Director of Employer Relations and the Director of Career Pathways to oversee and expand Dickinson College’s student internship programs, externships, and shadowing opportunities. This role plays a vital part in providing students with meaningful, hands-on experiences that align with their academic and career aspirations.
Essential Functions: Program Management: Manage a college-wide registered internship program, including domestic and global programs with curricular internship components and field experiences. Oversee the administration and continuous improvement of Dickinson’s internship program, ensuring a seamless experience for students, employers, and faculty. Lead and support a team of career pathway advisors, who serve as case managers for assigned cohorts of interns, overseeing reflection reviews, assignment evaluations, and ongoing student guidance. Collaborate with faculty and departments to align internship experiences with academic learning outcomes, incorporating structured reflection and assessment. Conduct ongoing evaluations of internship site hosts to ensure experiences are relevant, appropriate, and beneficial for students. Develop and revise internship policies and procedures to enhance program quality and accessibility.
Student Engagement & Career Development: Work closely with the career pathways team to integrate internships into students’ career planning. Support the team as they assess student learning outcomes in internships by facilitating the review of reflections, assignments, and feedback from students and employers to ensure alignment with academic and career goals. Plan and facilitate internship workshops, information sessions, and career-related events.
Strategic Leadership & Program Assessment: Contribute to the strategic planning and development of the Center for Career Development, collaborating with department leaders to set goals, evaluate program effectiveness, and implement initiatives. Provide insights and recommendations to enhance the center’s overall impact, ensuring alignment with institutional priorities and students’ evolving needs. Supervise one administrative coordinator supporting both internship programs and employer relations, collaborating with the director of employer relations to manage workflow effectively.
Employer Relations: In partnership with employer relations and pathway advisor teams maintain strong relationships with internship providers, working collaboratively with the employer relations and pathway advisor teams to expand high-quality internship opportunities. Work with potential employers to develop internship opportunities that meet both academic requirements and professional development objectives.
Student Grant Management: Administer and oversee the internship grant program, ensuring equitable access to funding for students participating in unpaid or underpaid internships.
Externship & Job Shadow Program Development: Design and implement an externship, job shadowing, and project-based learning program, providing students with short-term, immersive experiences that connect academic coursework with career exploration and hands-on industry projects.
Required:
Bachelor’s degree
5-8 Years work experience in internship coordination, career development, employer relations, or related fields within a higher education setting.
Preferred:
Master’s degree

Demonstrated ability to build and sustain relationships with faculty, employers, alumni, and community partners.
Experience in designing, implementing, and assessing internship programs, including the ability to measure student learning outcomes and program effectiveness.
Experience in advising and mentoring students on career readiness, internship opportunities, and professional development.
Proven leadership in working across departments, including faculty, college advancement, and external stakeholders, to enhance internship experiences.
Proficiency in using career services software and data-driven decision-making to track internship participation and outcomes.
Experience in managing grants, endowments, and donor-funded resources to support internship stipends and program growth, including strategic allocation and stewardship of funds to maximize student impact.
