Career and Professional Development at Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech) is seeking candidates for a director position. The Director of Career Technology and Assessment reports to the Senior Director of Career and Professional Development and serves on the unit’s leadership team. The director provides strategic leadership and/or coordination for all assessments, data analysis, and reporting – including, but not limited to, the First Destination Survey, Administrative Assessment Reports, and CPD annual reports. The director consults with CPD leadership and key campus partners to ensure sound data analysis and create sustainable processes for data sharing. As Career and Professional Development’s primary liaison to Virginia Tech’s Business and Management Systems (BAMS) – the unit providing IT and career technology support to CPD, the Director of Career Technology and Assessment manages CPD’s customer relationship management platform (CRM), oversees the office website, and works alongside other members of CPD leadership to ensure the strategic alignment, onboarding, and offboarding of career technologies and vendors.
Required Qualifications:
A master’s degree in business, counseling, higher education administration, student affairs/student personnel services, or a related field is required, as well as significant experience in either university career services, human resources, talent acquisition, training and development, workforce development, economic development, or another educational setting. Experience with direct supervision of full-time professionals. Demonstrated ability to analyze data, visualize data, create reports, provide consultations, and facilitate assessments. Ability to communicate data-laden information and adjust messages based on the audience. Comfort working with data and synthesizing information quickly to advance data-driven decisions. Ability to manage one’s own learning process for new technologies and software.
Preferred Qualifications:
Significant experience in university career services, corporate human resources, talent acquisition, or workforce/talent development. Familiarity with budget management processes. Successful relationship-building experience is strongly preferred. Experience structuring web content and navigation or designing systems for user experience. Experience with creating and structuring interrelated processes, practices, and policies in a complex organization. Ability to coordinate and manage multiple projects. To be successful in this fast-paced work environment, candidates should be energetic, organized, and detail-oriented and possess strong interpersonal, communication, and team skills.

Career and Professional Development is a centralized office of 30 staff dedicated to educating and supporting students as they explore and choose academic majors and career options, obtain and reflect upon career-related experiences, develop professional presence and essential skills for workplace success, and launch post-graduation career plans, including graduate/professional school and employment.
