Job Description:
The Director of The MacDonnell Career and Internship Center (TMCIC) provides the vision, leadership, and management of the TMCIC, its administrative team, and oversight of all TMCIC initiatives. The ideal candidate will be excited by the opportunity to envision, create, and sustain a campus wide career-readiness ecosystem that supports all students on their journey to prepare for fulfilling careers.
The Director interacts with all community members including: students, alumni, faculty, administrators/staff, employers and community partners. This position oversees all aspects of the office including (but not limited to) various software platforms, reporting, first destination survey, processes, for-credit internships, events such as career fairs, employer relations, the mentoring program, career services, etc. The Director actively engages in career counseling and works to promote the services of the center and career readiness across campus. This position provides leadership, supervision and professional development to all TMCIC employees.
The Director works with the Associate Provost for Experiential Learning and the Senior Experiential Learning Team to cultivate a culture of excellence and innovation in experiential learning at Siena University.
Main Responsibilities:
- Strategy Development: Work with campus leadership to envision, build, and maintain a campus wide career-readiness ecosystem. Develop, assess and report on all aspects of the center. Engage with faculty for curriculum development. Implement related strategic plans initiatives.
- Team Leadership: Manage all aspects of the 5-person team including hiring, onboarding, supervising, training, coaching, and evaluating.
- Employer Relations: Develop relationships with employers and alumni networks to expand internship and job opportunities for students.
- Internships: In collaboration with faculty and employers, develop for-credit internship opportunities.
- Campus Engagement: Represent the office at divisional meetings, serve on various committees, work with faculty to include career readiness in the curriculum. Liaise with the campus community to partner on opportunities.
- Budget Management: Manage and balance the budget and all financial responsibilities of the office including revenue generation, resource allocation and spending approvals.
- Career Counseling: Conduct individual and group counseling appointments for students and alumni. Partner with faculty to offer career presentations in classes. Teach the courses offered by the center and be present in classrooms, club meetings, etc. to provide training, workshops, and other engagement opportunities.
- Career Guide/Marketing Materials: Write, edit, produce materials associated with the office including the Career Guide.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Master's degree
2. Minimum 5 years experience in career counseling, higher education administration, talent acquisition and/or related fields.
3. Knowledge of career and student development theories and higher education administration.
4. Experience in positions with responsibility for programs and initiatives.
5. Experience using various computer platforms.
6. Familiarity with Google Suite & Microsoft Excel.
7. Excellent written and oral communication skills with the ability to communicate with a wide array of audiences.
8. Strong presentation and networking skills
9. Critical thinking skills to make informed decisions.
10. Leadership and teamwork skills to effectively manage and run the center.
11. Ability to work considerable evening and occasional weekend hours. Some travel is expected.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. 10 or more years of relevant experience.
2. Prior leadership/management experience.
3. Knowledge of Handshake.
